Klaas Moukangwe

Progressive web app (WPA) can best be described as website that behaves like app. like Alex Russell said "PWAs are just websites that took the right vitamins”. Let's discuss what they are and why you must have PWA.

Officially announced in 2015 by Alex Russell, Progressive Web apps can best be described as websites that behave like apps. Also referred to as PWAs, adopted all good features of modern websites and abandoned the cons. a PWA inherits a website’s easy discoverability and low maintenance. On the other hand, it inherits app’s rich ‘functionality, offline user interactivity, and engaging experience.

PWA can be accessed from web browsers just like a normal website (Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge). And it can be installed on your smartphone’s home screen and send you notifications. PWAs are rapidly growing fast now, so there’s no better time than now to get one for your business.

PWAs are supported by top companies like Google, Microsoft and Apple

  • Google invented the name PWA, they support them on their Chrome browser, and in their own words, love them because they are reliable, fast, and engaging.
  • Microsoft included PWAs in its Windows 10 rollout by making them available on the Edge web browser.
  • With its iOS 11.3 update, Apple now supports PWAs on Safari.

PWAs are poised to be the future of mobile web because they combine everything you love about mobile websites and apps. Now is the right time to get one for your business.
